Let Me Wander

Just as a painter paints, and a ponderer ponders, a writer writes, and a wanderer wanders.

Two years ago, I was taking a month-long documentary filmmaking class in London.

One year ago, I had a full time job as a PA at ABC News in NYC.

One month ago, I embarked on a solo journey to the West Coast for the first time.

Vancouver, BC

Now…I’m back home in NY, deciding what’s next winging it. As much as I adore this city, I’ve realized how much your job (or lack thereof) really defines who you are here. One of the first questions you’ll have to answer upon meeting someone new in NY is, “what do you do?” But I’ve learned in my travels that your job doesn’t have to define you. I got to know others as human beings and vice versa; it was wonderful.

Some have asked if I’ve gotten “it” out of my system. Traveling that is. Um, no. This is just the beginning. I was born to wander. You’re not learning or growing if you’re stuck doing the same thing day after day. What fun is that?

I want to live in different places, continue to meet new people and enjoy all of the little things along the way. I’m not waiting “to be happy one day” like so many others. I was inspired by other travelers who sold everything, quit jobs and made moves all for the sake of travel and adventure.

It’s amazing how little you can get by on. One of the things I actually enjoyed most in traveling was not having a whole wardrobe to choose from everyday; I felt like a cartoon character who wears the same outfit ALL the time. It was oddly freeing.

Happiness is a journey, not a destination; happiness is to be found along the way not at the end of the road, for then the journey is over and it’s too late. The time for happiness is today not tomorrow.

In other news, I was accepted into a graduate program at the University of Westminster for Sept. 2016! So maybe this time next year I’ll be jetting off to London again. Stay tuned…

Spread kindness and cheer, xo
