Happy 2018, y’all!
I’m happy to share that I’ve received the Liebster Blog Award from one of my fellow bloggers! Her name is Kate and she’s awesome! Check out her blog, The Maple Brit, here!
So . . . what is the Liebster Award anyway?
The Liebster Award is given to bloggers by bloggers to recognize them in the ever-growing blogging community.
The word “Liebster” is of German origin and has a few different meanings, including dearest, sweetest, beloved, lovely, and valued.
The Maple Brit, aka Kate, has put together a list of questions for me – please check out my answers below!
Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging at the beginning of 2015 – wow, three years ago now! I was encouraged by my colleague at the time, Chelsea, to create a food blog that would feature all of the spots I frequented and loved in NYC. This blog has since expanded and doesn’t resemble much of a food blog at all these days – but that’s the beauty of blogging! Check out my original list of the BEST spots to grab grub in NYC HERE.
What is your favorite travel destination and why?
My favorite travel destination is quite simply somewhere I haven’t been before! To date, the most unique and incredible place I’ve been is the magical country of Iceland.
If you could have dinner with anybody, alive or dead, who would it be?
Matthew Gray Gubler.
What is the best advice you could give to new bloggers just starting out?
Funnily enough, I was Kate’s first blog follower and she reached out to me for advice. This is what I told her via email:
“My biggest piece of advice is to just keep blogging — don’t pay attention to the number of followers, comments, likes, etc. If you keep creating original content, people will find their way to your blog! For months, I only had like 6 followers and I had total moments of – ugh why bother creating content if no one is reading it! But everyone starts somewhere! Oh, and definitely, SHARE your content!”
Which 3 items would you want with you if you were stranded on a desert island?
A notebook, a pen, and a Polaroid camera.
What is your favorite blog post that you have written?
My favorite blog posts are actually those that have nothing to do with travel or food. They’re the honest, raw musings that I feel compelled to share with others. Like this one, Why I Quit my Job in Broadcast and Booked a One Way Ticket to California.
What do you see yourself doing in 10 years time?
Eek! I don’t know what I’ll be doing tomorrow let alone in 10 years time. All I can hope is that I have a trip booked somewhere, a dog by my side, and my very own library.
What’s your favorite book?
The Time Traveler’s Wife.
Describe your perfect weekend.
I love unexpected adventure weekends as much as I love staying in with a good book. My perfect weekend, however, would be one that lasts forever.
What’s the dumbest way you’ve been injured?
Luckily, I have never suffered any kind of dramatic injury – no broken bones, etc. Last week I cut my hand cleaning my microwave . . . that felt pretty dumb. OH WAIT I HAVE ONE – ok, so, I was probably 12-years-old and my parents and I were heading up to Lake George. I was in the backseat and, the only child that I am got bored and decided to tie my shoelaces together. THEN, I PROMPTLY FELL ASLEEP AND FORGOT ABOUT THE SHOELACES. When I woke up we had arrived and I opened my door, went to get out, and promptly fell out of the car, forgetting about my shoelaces. It was hilarious and so dumb all at the same time.
What skill or superpower would you love to have?
I think it’s the journalist in me but I always say how much I’d love to be a fly on the wall for this or that. So, invisibility it is! Teleporting would be cool too, but I weirdly enjoy the journey of getting from one place to another.
Thanks again to Kate for the award! I now have to pick some bloggers to pass the award along to! I will feature them in an upcoming post – stay tuned!
Spread kindness and cheer, xo
