My next adventure will bring me to ASIA for the first time! Yayayay 15 hour flights wooooo! I’m counting down the days until February when I can escape the freezing NY temps and bask in the Hawaii of Japan…Okinawa!
I used to say I could never be in a long distance relationship.
What’s the point?! Sounds mi-s-er-a-bleeeeee.
While it’s certainly not all rainbows and kittens, it’s worth it when you know that person is your person. The distance doesn’t feel as hopeless when you’ve found the person who fills you with hope. But it’s fucking hard. There’s no candy coating that, my friends.
My marine will be home a month from today, for a few weeks, and I’m so so so so so excited. I haven’t seen him since the first day of the year, but we’ve found ways to combat not being physically together. We write cheesy letters to each other (YES, LETTERS. SENT IN THE MAIL!) and every time I get one from him it’s an instant day brightener.
FUN FACT: If you’re sending mail to a military base (even if it’s alllll the way in Japan), all you need is one US stamp! Yay USPS helping out the military folk.
We message each other every day, no matter the time difference, and make time to video chat when we can. It’s not always convenient, but it’s always worth it.
If you’re in a LDR, I applaud you and wish you nothing but the best.

Over a year ago I wrote this piece for my blog. I was gearing up for a new adventure and couldn’t have been more excited. It’s amazing how life changes in 365 days. To think it was only last June that I was wandering around San Francisco, by myself, enjoying ice cream (the best ever) in Dolores Park. I was single, unemployed and gave zero fucks. I was on an ADVENTURRREEEE and loving every single second of it.
It honestly feels like yesterday.
I remember so vividly staying at the Green Tortoise Hostel, wandering around Pike’s Place Market with my new travel buddies and meeting back up with newfound friends in Vancouver. It was such an invigorating few weeks that I’ll always be able to look back on with smiles and laughter.
And that’s why I love to travel.
I strive to live a life rich with memories and moments, small and large. I love looking back on photos and journals detailing my crazy adventures — those mean more to me than any other material possession.
Now, I’m back to work in NYC and I’m in a long distance relationship! You’d think I was in a relationship with some guy I met during my travels, right? Nope. Someone I met SIX May’s ago at a summer job and reconnected with after my adventure last summer. And now I know what being in love truly feels like and it’s all the clichés I could’ve ever dreamed of and more.
Long distance is rough and it’s something I honestly never thought I’d be down for. But when it’s love and it’s real, it’s worth it and the distance isn’t even a factor, it’s just a hump to get through. (Military boys, amiright?)
ANYWAYS – wishing you all a fantastic week! Hope the weather is warm and sunny wherever you are 🙂
